A step back from the 2012, yet still with outstanding potential, the 2013 Gigondas has attractive notes of black fruits, pepper, violets and wet rock in a firm, nicely concentrated, classic Gigondas package. Described as “punchy” by Philippe, it has solid ripeness and does well in the vintage; it will need two to three years to round into form and have 10-15 years of overall longevity. Jeb Dunnuck.
