Our comment

This wine is a unique expression of the excellence of the lieu-dit « Saint-Joseph » appellation and these vineyards are from amongst the very best of this up-and-coming appellation in the northern Côtes-du-Rhône. These very slopes lent their name to the Saint-Joseph appellation when it was created. The label was designed by Roger PFUND, a Franco-Swiss artist who is a specialist in the design of bank notes.

BETTANE+DESSEAUVE

Score : 16.5/20

Plus épicé, plus fumé, plus savoureux que le saint-joseph, la bouche est gourmande et un peu moins boisée que par le passé, on ne s’en plaint pas. L’équilibre reste très digeste.

The 2017 Saint Joseph Lieu Dit Saint Joseph Blanc comes from one of the gem terroirs in the appellation and was brought up in barrel. More supple and elegant than the 2016, this medium to full-bodied white has considerable purity and freshness as well as a great bouquet of white peach, crushed rocks, and hints of brioche. Despite 2017 being a hot, sunny year, this wine has remarkable purity and clarity. Drink it over the coming 5-7 years.

WINE ADVOCATE

Score : 93

While Marcel Guigal says he loves to stick his Ex Voto white Hermitage in blind Burgundy tastings, you might also try that with this beauty. The 2017 Saint-Joseph Lieu-Dit Saint-Joseph Blanc is all barrel fermented (half in new and half in second use oak) and offers aromas of toasted almonds and hazelnuts. It has a broad, generous mouthfeel and ripe melon and pear flavors. Despite the richness and silky texture, it remains fresh and focused on the lengthy finish.
